Who Can Benefit From Nose Surgery?

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
During rhinoplasty, Dr. Peña will use a reshaping technique chosen based on your personal needs. Most procedures are performed on the internal nose involving the manipulation of existing bone and cartilage. Incisions are placed in the nostrils or in the area between the nostrils called the columella. The skin is separated from the nose and the reshaping can involve reduction of bone and cartilage, the addition of cartilage, and reshaping the cartilage with sutures. The procedure is usually done under intravenous anesthesia and can take from one to three hours.* The procedure may be longer if you have breathing problems that will be handled at the same time by the ENT (Dr. Bello). In those cases, general anesthesia is required for your safety.
Is Rhinoplasty a Painful Procedure?
The rhinoplasty procedure involves surgery, so there will be some discomfort during the recovery period. Dr. Peña prescribes pain medication to help you with any pain. Comparatively, rhinoplasty surgery discomfort is overall described by our patients as mild.* The post-surgical period will require you to follow explicit instructions from Dr. Peña.
A week or more of recovery time may be needed, depending on the extent of surgery and your current health. Rhinoplasty patients can expect some discomfort, swelling, bruising, nausea and minor bleeding.* Rest assured that these side effects are temporary and can be minimized with medication. Plenty of rest is recommended. You will return to see Dr. Peña for bandage removal and to make sure you are healing properly. Dr. Peña and his staff will go over all of the post-operative instructions several times and provide you with a take-home information packet.
