If you have noticed the signs of aging appearing in your forehead area, a brow lift from Dr. Manuel Peña can help minimize problems like wrinkling and sagging. A brow lift, also referred to as a forehead lift, is designed to create a more pleasing forehead appearance by raising the contour of the eyebrows.
Sagging skin around eyebrows can be improved with a very limited procedure called a subcutaneous lateral brow lift. While Dr. Peña performed many endoscopic brow lifts in the past between 1997-2005, it became evident to him that the results were not long lasting and sometimes after weakening or releasing the frown muscles, a quizzical look would develop. Dr Peña abandoned the endoscopic browlift in the 2006 focusing on the “Lateral Subcutaneous Brow Lift”. Dr Peña reserves the traditional brow lift to the most severe sagging cases with low anterior hairline. The benefits of a brow lift should be to raise the lateral one-third of the brow and restore the beautiful normal arch. Crows feet fold will also be improved.
Who is a Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Dr. Peña advises men and women that a brow lift targets the brow position primarily and is not performed to improve sagging of the eyelids or eye wrinkling. If you would like to correct skin issues around the eyes, Dr. Peña may recommend a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) for concerns with puffy bags or hooding eyelid skin.
Many of Dr. Peña’s cosmetic surgery patients combine the brow lift with other procedures like the eyelid lift or facelift to achieve a more dramatic rejuvenation. A brow lift can be performed using either the endoscopic or traditional technique. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Manuel M. Peña, M.D. is committed to providing advanced surgical techniques that he knows can be of the greatest benefit to his patients.
During your consultation with Dr. Peña, he will discuss what surgical technique is best to meet your goals and expectations of your facial cosmetic surgery.
What is a Traditional Brow Lift?
With the traditional brow lift, Dr. Peña will place a single incision in the hairline, reaching from ear to ear. The forehead muscles are adjusted and tightened, and some skin removal will help the smoothing process. The result is a raised hairline and a refreshed forehead appearance. The scars are concealed behind or at the hairline.*
Advantages of Lateral Subcutaneous Brow Lifts
The main benefits of using an endoscope to perform a brow lift are:
- Less invasive facial plastic surgery
- More conservative incisions
- Less extensive scarring
- Can be done under local anesthesia
- Can be easily repeated if needed in the future
- Less sensation changes to the forehead
Brow lift patients will have scars at the hairline on each side. The scars are designed to allow the hair to grow through them making them quite inconspicuous.
Of course, a Lateral Subcutaneous Brow lift is still a surgical procedure. Just like the traditional technique, it involves some form of anesthesia and there are certain risks of complications. Overall, it is a less invasive surgical procedure.
“Dr. Peña is a Brilliant Surgeon and Artist! As I entered my 70’s I realized that I could definitely use a “lift”. . . I had no desire to change my face but rather to enjoy a “freshening” of the sagging skin we all experience at some age. Dr. Peña was totally honest as to what I should expect and I am so grateful for his skill and honesty!…” - Pamela Jacobs (Google Review)Read More Reviews
