What Are Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are medical grade materials that are injected into your skin in order to repair wrinkles, lines, and scars. They are an excellent method of restoring facial volume. The Restylane® family of injectable gels are FDA-approved products specially manufactured to address various age-related concerns. What is Restylane® Defyne?

What is Restylane® Lyft?
Restylane® Lyft is an exciting hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. It is the first and only HA filler that is FDA-approved to address your face and hands volumizing and wrinkle reduction goals. This dermal filler produces natural-looking volume in your cheeks, midface area, and hands resulting in more youthful-looking appearance. An added plus is that you can rejuvenate your face and hands in just one appointment.
What is Restylane® Refyne?
Restylane® Refyne is specifically designed to smooth out those irritating mild-to-moderate laugh lines (nasolabial folds) lines) and wrinkles. This filler uses hyaluronic acid (HA) as it’s active ingredient with the added, XpresHAn Technology™ which cross-links the gel to help support your natural facial expressions and movement.
The primary difference between Restylane® Defyne and Restylane® Refyne is that Refyne is used for mild-to-moderate wrinkles and general lines, while Restylane® Defyne treats moderate-to-severe smile lines.
What is Restylane® Silk?
Restylane® Silk is an injectable product that is designed for smoothing wrinkles and lines around the mouth, also known as ‘smoker’s lines.’ Restylane® Silk is also designed to augment the lips, making them appear fuller and more youthful. It is a smooth injectable that is formulated using a high concentration of cross-linked chains of HA. The HA particles are also smaller and smoother than those used in other Restylane® products. Because of the small size of the particles, the product can absorb water after it has been placed causing 24-48 hours of mild-to-moderate swelling!
Dr. Peña also offers Restylane-L® for tear toughs and Restylane® Kysse™ for lip enhancements at his Peña Plastic Surgery practice which is located in Naples, FL.
How are Restylane® Dermal Fillers Injected and What Results Can You Expect?
Injection skill, experience and technique matters! Dr. Peña performs all dermal filler injections on his patients. The injection process involves three steps:
- Step One: Dr. Peña will carefully select the injection points on areas of the face or hand to be treated. If needed, an antiseptic is also applied.
- Step Two: Dr. Peña then identifies the correct amount of the recommended Restylane® product to be injected, dependent upon the facial and/or hand rejuvenation desired.
- Step Three: The filler is injected with a needle in the desired locations under the skin.
The treatment requires little to no downtime and most patients are able to return to their regular activities immediately after the injections.
Results from the Restylane® products vary dependent upon the product:
- Restylane® Defyne results typically last for 12 months*
- Restylane® Lyft results typically last between 10-18 months*
- Restylane® Refyne results typically last for 12 months*
- Restylane® Silk results typically last up to six months*
- Restylane-L® in tear toughs can typically last several years*
Most of Dr. Peña’s patients only need one session to achieve maximum results, yet touch-up treatments are an option for those who want to achieve and maintain their desired facial enhancement.
