Approved by the FDA in December of 2003, it was the first hyaluronic acid (HA) approved for use in the USA! Restylane-L® is a natural dermal filler used to add volume and fullness to facial skin. This facial filler corrects moderate-to-severe wrinkles, lines and folds from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Since the original launch of Restylane®, Galderma has added other advanced facial filler Restylane® products including: Defyne, Lyft, Refyne, Silk, and their newest product, Kysse. These advanced dermal fillers are manufactured to address specific areas of the face including cheek and lip augmentation.
All Restylane® injections are made of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural sugar compound present in the skin. Since its approval, Restylane-L® has been a favorite filler for its positive, long-lasting results and its ability to be used in combination with other facial treatments such as non-surgical lip enhancement. Restylane-L® Uses
Restylane-L® is used to restore facial contours and skin volume with a clear liquid gel. Because it’s not made from animal products, the risk of infection or allergic reaction is very little. Restylane-L® is generally used to reshape and enhance:
- Facial wrinkles
- Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
- Lips
- Cheeks
- Jaw line
- Chin
- Marionette lines
- Tear toughs
The Restylane-L® Procedure
Restylane-L® treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that can be done in our office. Restylane-L® is typically administered to patients aged 35 to 60. Restylane-L® is made up of 0.3% Lidocaine. The lidocaine reduces the discomfort associated during and after the injection treatment.
The hyaluronic acid in Restylane-L® works by retaining volume under the surface of skin. The acid adheres to the skin and acts like a magnet for water molecules, which helps preserve the improved volume of the skin.
Restylane-L® treatment is completed in three steps:
- Step One: Dr. Peña will choose the number of injection points for the locations being treated. An antiseptic is also applied if requested.
- Step Two: Dr. Peña then identifies the correct amount of Restylane-L® to be administered, depending on the extent of treatment.
- Step Three: The filler is injected with a needle in the desired locations under the skin.
Results After Restylane-L® Injections
Results can generally be seen within one week of your procedure with success rates for reducing or removing deep wrinkles at 80 percent. After your treatment, some facial swelling may occur but will subside within a few days. While it is advised that patients stay out of the sun for a few days, normal activities may be resumed directly following the procedure.*
Restylane-L® generally lasts up to six months, and follow-up treatments can help you maintain your results.*
