Radiesse® is a dermal filler/ Stimulator that restores lost facial volume. It can be used in different body areas as well! This filler can be used to help improve some of the signs of aging and to define facial contours. At the cosmetic facial enhancement practice of Dr. Manuel Peña, we offer a wide variety of fillers including Radiesse®.
What Does Radiesse® Do?
Radiesse® restores a smoother, more youthful facial appearance and is used to reduce the appearance of:
- Laugh lines (nasolabial folds)
- Mouth parentheses (marionette lines)
- Cheek hollows
- Facial lines
- Useful in improving the skin texture in some chin volume/projection deficiencies
damaged chest also called the décolletage. - Also used in combination with microneedling to improve stretch marks
- Hand rejuvenation
The active ingredient in Radiesse® are microspheres called calcium hydroxylapatite. This material is also used as a bone filler. The microspheres are suspended in a smooth, water-based gel. Both of these ingredients are absorbed by your body over time. The gel is absorbed first, and the CaHA breaks down over the course of a year or longer.* This material not only “fills” but also stimulates the body’s own collagen and elastin production!
What are the Advantages of Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is an FDA-approved dermal filler with a long history of safety. The advantages of this facial and hand filler include:
- Stimulates natural production of collagen
- Results last for a year or longer*
- Non-surgical
- Requires no downtime
- Visible results right away
Radiesse® has the advantage of providing both a rejuvenating effect and long-term facial rejuvenation. After the filler is injected, it adds volume to your face, smoothing out folds and wrinkles, and creating a more youthful facial appearance. Overtime, collagen surrounds the microspheres of Radiesse®. Eventually, this collagen should replace the filler as the CaHA breaks down. Collagen makes your skin smoother, more elastic and can improve your complexion.
There isn’t a recovery period for this filler like there is for a cosmetic surgery, such as a facelift. Instead, you can return to your normal activities as soon as you want to, although you may have some slight bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site.
Are there Other Radiesse® Rejuvenation Options?
Radiesse® is also used to augment certain areas of your face, often in combination with a chin implant or rhinoplasty. The filler can be injected in the chin, jawline, and cheeks to enhance and contour those areas, creating improved proportion and balance between your facial features.
The FDA approved Radiesse® in June 2015 for the treatment of the aging hand making it the first dermal filler available for use by skilled injectors to immediately correct volume loss on the back of the hands. Because Radiesse® is made of calcium particles suspended in gel carriers that resemble bone, the opaque appearance of Radiesse® helps to hide the veins in the hands while helping to thicken the tissues of the back of the hands. This material also stimulates your body’s own collagen and continues to replace any loss of volume for between 12 and18 months.*
