What is Dysport®?
Dysport® is made from onabotulinumtoxinA, a safe and FDA-approved treatment to temporarily improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Dysport®, like BOTOX® Cosmetic, is a neurotoxin in injected into the area between the eyebrows or in the smile lines (Crow’s feet). Dysport® then relaxes the muscles and prevents those muscles from contracting. This muscle contraction is what contributes to the creation of wrinkles and creases.
Are You a Candidate for Dysport®?
If you are self-conscious about the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead creases, or frown lines, Dysport® may be the answer for you. The injections normally take just a few minutes and you can return to normal activities (except some forms of exercise may require a 24-hour break). What Areas of the Face is Dysport® Commonly Used to Treat?
Dysport® is proven effective and safe for treating lines and wrinkles throughout the face. Common areas for Dysport® treatment include the forehead, in between the eye brows, around the eyes, and marionette lines or downturned corners of the mouth. How is Dysport® Injected?
The precise injection of Dysport® is as follows:
- A topical anesthetic cream is applied to “freeze” the areas to be treated. Usually an ice compress will also be used.
- Dr. Peña will inject a precise amount of Dysport® into your targeted problem areas. The treatment time will vary for each patient.
- Normal daily activities can be immediately resumed but rigorous activities may be restricted for about 24 hours.
Injection patients are discouraged from resting in a horizontal position for several hours following injection. You will be asked to avoid rubbing the injection site as well.
How Long Does Dysport® Last?
Neuromodulators take two days to two weeks to have a full effect. Dysport® injection results last for up to five months.* Your results will depend on factors such as your lifestyle choices and age at the time of injections, but it is uncommon for results to last for a substantially longer amount of time. However, maintaining your results is easy, requiring no more than additional visits to our office for touchup treatments.
