Is liposuction an effective weight-loss tool?
Our Naples liposuction surgeon performs this procedure to help reduce excess fat in localized areas of the body such as the stomach, hips, or thighs. Liposuction is not a large-volume weight loss tool and should not be used as such. At the office of Fort Myers plastic surgeon, Dr. Manuel Peña, we only approve candidates for liposuction who are in good health and within or close to normal weight ranges. Eating a healthy diet, exercising and cosmetic procedures like liposuction may be combined to achieve the fat loss goals you are looking for, but liposuction is not considered a primary weight loss tool.
Am I a good liposuction candidate?
In general, good liposuction candidates fall within normal weight ranges and have localized fat that has remained unresponsive to diet and exercise efforts. Patients must be over age 18 and should have realistic expectations about the results that can be achieved. The degree of skin elasticity or firmness is a factor, but does not usually prevent a patient from being approved for surgery. You will be able to see results photos of past patients with similar characteristics as yourself. Serious health problems like uncontrolled diabetes or heart disease can rule you out for this procedure.
What are the best body areas to have liposuction performed?
The most common areas of the body that our Naples liposuction surgeon treats are the upper thighs, stomach and hips, with hip rolls as the number one target area. Liposuction can be performed on many areas throughout the body on both men and women. Dr. Peña does not perform this treatment on the face due to increased risks of irregularities. However, the neck is one of his favorite targets.
How long do liposuction results last?
Liposuction removes the fat cells. Liposuction patients will need to work hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle with good diet and plenty of exercise to prevent weight gain and shape loss.
