Recently a local television station called to ask me if I was seeing a trend toward smaller breast implants. When I answered that the average size of the first time breast augmentation was still 400ccs as it has been for the last 8- 10 years, they did not seem to want to hear me. I did mention that I have noticed women with very large implants that they have had for many years often are opting for smaller ones as it has affected their lifestyle or they want a different look. This often (but not always) requires a lifting procedure. Although this part of the interview was used in the story aired last week, another sugeon who believes the implants are getting smaller (thus corroborated their story) got the lion's share of the air time. As usual the media tries to create rather than report the news!
